NexCore Group was engaged by Summit Healthcare to lead the development of a new state-of-the-art ambulatory campus on the Summit Healthcare Regional Medical Center (“Summit”) campus. The system’s goals were to increase patient satisfaction and enhance provider productivity by consolidating and coordinating many of the twenty-two current primary and specialty care clinics spread across a wide geographic area. The new facilities improve the patient experience and foster synergies among providers through integrated programming and delivery models.

The ambulatory campus provides comprehensive outpatient and physician services in a convenient, centralized location, and includes a 102,331 square foot Outpatient Pavilion, 16,213 square foot Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC), and 54,699 square foot Administration Building. The goal of these facilities is to increase productivity, accessibility, and patient satisfaction, while presenting an image that is reflective of the quality of care provided. The consolidation of Summit’s facilities and services is valuable to the community as there is limited public transportation and many patients must arrange transportation to their appointments. Being able to access a full spectrum of providers and outpatient services in one convenient location alleviates the burden of accessing care at multiple facilities.

Using its innovative space planning process, NexCore’s in-house design team guided administrators, physicians, and staff through a space transformation and consolidation effort to arrive at design solutions that provide greater patient convenience while increasing physician capacity, streamlining workflows and improving efficiency.

Growth & Efficiency Statistics

  • Modeling indicated the new platform has the capacity to produce 20% or greater additional capacity while remaining in a nearly identical dispersed footprint.
  • The platform is designed to accommodate 14 additional providers and has the capacity to go far beyond with adjusted block scheduling.
  • Streamlining medical assistant (MA) workflows is expected to improve MA utilization by over 14%.
  • Support Staff efficiencies are predicted to decrease cost per encounter by 10%.

Meeting the growing demand from the local patient population remains an utmost priority for Summit. By increasing provider productivity and collaboration, patients are able to get more timely access to care which will help to stem the current outmigration for services. The Outpatient Pavilion is designed to enable Summit Healthcare to achieve its mission to deliver expectational and compassionate care close to home.

The facilities broke ground in November 2017 and opened for patients summer of 2019.
